DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0010] It will be appreciated that for simplicity and clarity of illustration, where appropriate, reference numerals have been repeated among the different figures to indicate corresponding or analogous elements. In addition, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the embodiments described herein. However, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that the embodiments described herein can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, methods, procedures and components have not been described in detail so as not to obscure the related relevant feature being described. Also, the description is not to be considered as limiting the scope of the embodiments described herein. The drawings are not necessarily to scale and the proportions of certain parts may be exaggerated to better illustrate details and features of the present disclosure.

[0011] A definition that applies throughout this disclosure will now be presented.

[0012] The term "comprising," when utilized, means "including, but not necessarily limited to"; it specifically indicates open-ended inclusion or membership in the so-described combination, group, series and the like.

[0013] The present disclosure is described in relation to a protective casing.

[0014] FIG. 1 illustrates a protective casing 1 for an electronic device, which includes an outer casing 10 and an inner casing 20.

[0015] FIG. 2 illustrates an exploded view of the protective casing 1. The outer casing 10 can be made of metal material. The inner casing 20 can be made of nonmetal material. In this embodiment, the inner casing 20 is made of plastic.

[0016] The outer casing 10 can be made of metal section bar via molding or extruding, thereby decreasing working time and cost for manufacturing the outer casing 10. The outer casing 10 is a prismatic shape. The outer casing 10 includes an outer surface 11, an inner surface 12 opposite to the outer surface 11, and a connecting surface 13 connecting the outer surface 11 and the inner surface 12. In the illustrated embodiment, the outer surface 11 and the inner surface 12 are both curved. A radius of curvature of the outer surface 11 and the inner surface 12 can be the same. A thickness of the outer casing 10 can be uniform. The connecting surface 13 connects lateral edges of the outer surface 11 and the inner surface 12.

[0017] The outer surface further includes at least one prismatic bar 14. In this embodiment, the at least one prismatic bar 14 can number two. The two prismatic bars 14 are parallel to each other and spaced from each other. A length of each of the two prismatic bars 14 can be equal to that of the outer casing 10. Each prismatic bar 14 extends from a joint of the inner surface 12 and the connecting surface 13 away from the outer surface 11 and then extends towards the other prismatic bar 14. Ends of the two prismatic bars 14 are close to each other and form a clip 15 together. A receiving cavity 16 with an opening is defined in the clip 15 and is also between the two prismatic bars 14, for receiving and fixing the inner casing 20.

[0018] The inner casing 20 is also prismatic shaped. The inner casing 20 can be made individually and then fixed on the outer casing 10. The inner casing 20 can also be molded together with the outer casing 10, thereby decreasing a working time and cost for manufacturing the inner casing 20.

[0019] The inner casing 20 includes an abutting portion 21 and a clipping portion 22. The abutting portion 21 abuts the ends of the two prismatic bars 14 of the outer casing 20. The abutting portion 21 is substantially a plane shape. The clipping portion 22 is clipped in the receiving cavity 16. The clipping portion 22 extends from a surface of the abutting portion 21. The clipping portion 22 includes a head 221 and a neck 222. A size of the head 221 is larger than that of the neck 222. The neck 222 is clipped in the clip 15 of the outer casing 10. The head 221 is received in the receiving cavity 16.

[0020] When formed individually, the inner casing 20 need be assembled on the outer casing 10. It can be assembled as following. An end of the inner casing 20 can be placed at an end of the outer casing 10. The end of the inner casing 20 faces the receiving cavity 16 of the outer casing 10. The inner casing 20 is slide along a lengthwise direction of the outer casing 10 into the receiving cavity 16 until the inner casing 20 is entirely received in the outer casing 10.

[0021] When the inner casing 20 is formed with the outer casing 10 together, the outer casing 10 can be placed into a predetermined mold (not shown). Then the inner casing 20 is formed by injection mold in the outer casing 10.

[0022] In this embodiment, a plurality of holes 30 can be formed on the outer casing 10 and the inner casing 20 for one or more predetermined keys penetrating therethrough. In the first embodiment, a number of the inner casing 20 is three. Each two adjacent inner casings 20 are spaced from each other with a gap 32 defined therebetween. The three inner casing 20 are fixed in the outer casing 10 segmentedly, thereby reducing a quantity of material of the inner casing 20 and a weight of the protective casing 1.

[0023] FIGS. 3-5 illustrate a protective casing 2 according to a second embodiment. The protective casing 2 is configured for protecting a mobile phone. The outer casing 40 includes two first outer casings 41 and two second outer casings 42. The two first outer casings 41 face each other, and the two second outer casings 42 face each other. The two first outer casings 41 and the two second outer casings 42 surround to form a rectangular shape and surround the mobile phone peripherally. The inner casing 50 is a rectangular shape and is clipped on inner sides of the first outer casings 41 and the second outer casing 42. A difference between the protective casing 2 in the second embodiment and the protective casing 1 in the first embodiment is that a clipping portion 43 is formed on the outer casing 40 and a receiving cavity 51 is defined in the inner casing 50 corresponding to the clipping portion 43. The clipping portion 43 is received in the receiving cavity 51 to fix the inner casing 50 onto the outer casing 40. In this embodiment, a number of the clipping portion 43 numbers at least two. And the at least two clipping portions 43 are spaced from each other. Corresponding to the clipping portions 43, a number of the receiving portion 51 is two.

[0024] In the above embodiments, the protective casing (1, 2) are made of two different materials. The outer casing is made of metal material, which applies a metal appearance and a metal texture and further applies a better strength, a better wear-resisting property and a better marresistance than nonmetal material. The inner casing is made of nonmetal material, which acts as a buffer layer between the outer casing and the electronic device because of an inherent character of the nonmetal material. The inner casing can be attached with the electronic device more firmly, which can further protect the electronic device from scuffing.

[0025] It is to be further understood that even though numerous characteristics and advantages have been set forth in the foregoing description of embodiments, together with details of the structures and functions of the embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only; and that changes may be made in detail, according in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the disclosure to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.

[0026] The embodiments shown and described above are only examples. Many details are often found in the art such as the other features of a protective case for an electronic device. Therefore, many such details are neither shown nor described. Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present technology have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the present disclosure, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in the detail, especially in matters of shape, size and arrangement of the parts within the principles of the present disclosure up to, and including the full extent established by the broad general meaning of the terms used in the claims. It will therefore be appreciated that the embodiments described above may be modified within the scope of the claims.
