Container Closure with a Vent Capability

Abstract

A container closure manufactured or adapted to be appended to a container that permits the discriminatory disbursement of the container contents; the container closure consisting of at least one vent on, within, or part of the container closure that allows for air, liquid, gas, or some substance to pass from one side or section of the container closure to another, while providing the ability of the container closure to secure contents within an appended container.

20. A container closure comprising: a body adapted to connect to a container over at least one aperture of a container, the body of the container closure being defined by a top surface adjacent to a sidewall, that aids in the containment of the contents of an appended container; and at least one vent on the body of the container closure that is free from direct communication with the aperture of an appended container, wherein the at least one vent permits air, liquid, or some substance to move from one area of the container closure to another.

21. The container closure of claim 20, wherein the container closure is at least partially constructed of a polyolefin.

22. The container closure of claim 20, wherein the top wall and sidewall join at a curve.

23. The container closure of claim 20, wherein the sidewall is of polygonal shape.

24. The container closure of claim 20, wherein the at least one vent transverses both the top surface adjacent to a sidewall and a sidewall.

25. The container closure of claim 20, wherein at least 1% of the total surface area of the closure body is porous allowing for liquid, air, or a substance to pass through the closure body.

26. A closure for a container, the closure comprising of: a body adapted for connection with a container over at least one opening, the body consisting of a top wall or surface with at least one aperture that may communicate with the at least one opening of an appended container, a sidewall adjacent to the top wall or surface; and a moveable appendage that may obstruct the at least one aperture, and expose the at least one aperture; and at least one vent, wherein the vent permits movement of a matter from at least one side of the container closure, or section thereof, to another, and does not diminish the ability of the closure to secure a substance within an appended container.

27. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the closure is at least partially constructed of a polyolefin.

28. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the closure is free of any joint or hinge.

29. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the at least one vent exists on the top wall of the container closure body.

30. The closure of claim 26 wherein the at least one vent exists on the sidewall of the container closure body.

31. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the at least one vent exists on both the top wall and sidewall of the container closure.

32. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the at least one vent exists on an appendage and top wall.

33. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the at least one vent exists on the top wall, sidewall, and appendage.

34. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the at least one vent transverses the appendage, top wall, and sidewall at a terminal point of connection.

35. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the appendage is connected to the container closure through a flexural component.

36. The closure of claim 26, wherein at least one percent (1%) of the surface area of the appendage is porous.

37. The container closure of claim 26, wherein the appendage is a flip-top cap.

38. A method of package, presentation, and use of a consumable product that permits ventilation of a container closure, the method comprising: a) the manufacture of a container closure with a vent capability; b) the appending of a container closure with a vent capability to a container; c) the presentation for sale or use of a product packaged with a container closure with a vent capability and an appended container; d) the positioning of a container closure with a vent capability and appended container that enables liquid, air, gas, or some substance to move from at least one area of the container closure to another.
Description



[0001] This Nonprovisional Utility Patent application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. .sctn..sctn. 119(e) to U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 62/467,111, filed Mar. 4, 2017, which is expressly incorporated by reference herein.

[0002] The present disclosure is directed to container closures and, more particularly, to container closures that may be coupled with a container for the packaging, storage, and use of consumable goods.

BACKGROUND

[0003] Consumable goods for example consumer cosmetics, soaps, personal care products, drugs, and other products that may be packaged within an aerosol spray dispensing system, of which in some instances may be packaged in containers similar to many consumables and often constructed of a plastic, a metal, or a composite material in various symmetric or asymmetric shapes, colors, and sizes. These containers may possess a removable closure appended to at least one end of the container. One example of such a container is designed in a way that allows for the container to stand freely atop of the container closure cap. Other examples may include an ability or design features that allow the container to be fastened to, stuck on, or hung from a surface or object. The consumer cosmetics, soaps, personal care products, and drugs packaged within the container may exist in various states of a liquid, or viscous matter that is distributed in a controlled manner from the container at the discretion of a user. This is generally done by squeezing the container to force the contents out of a hole or opening. In some combinations of this packaging style, container closures may be fastened to a container through the application of force, rotation such as screwing the closure on, or a semi-permanent adhesive. Two exemplary types of container closures used in such packaging that allow the container to stand atop the closure include; a female circular container closure that screws onto a mated container. In this embodiment the container closure is removed from the container when user wishes to access the contents within the container, and then returned to secure the remaining container contents. A second exemplary type consists of a container closure containing a flip-top cap that is opened and closed to access and secure the contents within the container. Generally, in the prior art the flip-top cap may be comprised of a flat surface that permits the container to stand atop of the cap. U.S. Patent Publication Number US 2008/0264961 A1 illustrates one embodiment of such a flip-top container closure. These examples of container closures may be produced using an injection molding manufacturing process, a compression molding manufacturing process, or other processes and may often be constructed of a polyolefin compound or other variation of a plastic or plant-based material.

[0004] Products packaged in such a container that may stand freely atop of a cap may often times be used by consumers in locations where personal hygiene and personal care activities take place, such as a kitchen, a bathroom, a bathtub, a shower, or a spa. In some instances, consumers move these products from one location to another, for example, being moved from out of a shower area and onto a bathroom sink area.

[0005] The current manufacturing and utility of the container closures that allow for the container to stand freely atop of the cap often results in an accumulation of a substance around the container closure such as within the space between the container closure and the container. This substance, often times water, or the substance held within the container, may accumulate during use or while the container and container closure stand at rest through direct and indirect contact with water and/or moisture in the air. When the container with appended container closure is moved, the accumulated substance often leaks from the area of accumulation resulting in an inconvenience and potential safety hazard for the handler. This leakage may drip along the hand or body of the handler, or spill to the floor, resulting in a wet and potentially unsafe surface.

[0006] The Container Closure with a Vent Capability solves or ameliorates the problems, deficiencies, and defects outlined above, and others not currently identified in the present disclosure, while retaining all expected functionality and purpose of a container closure, through various embodiments containing at least one communicative opening between the container closure and appended container, and at least one container closure vent allowing for the disbursement of an accumulated substance from the space in and or around the container closure.

BRIEF SUMMARY

[0007] Across various embodiments the Container Closure with a Vent Capability solves or ameliorates, but shall not be limited to addressing, the deficiencies, and defects outlined in the previous section, "Background", concerning container closures while retaining substantially all normal functionality of a container closure.

[0008] According to one aspect of an exemplary embodiment consisting of a container closure comprising; a body adapted to connect to a container over at least one aperture of the container, the body of the container closure being defined by a top surface adjacent to a sidewall, that secure the contents of an appended container; and at least one vent on the body of the container closure that is free from direct communication with the aperture of the appended container, wherein the at least one vent permits air, liquid, or some substance to move from the one side of the container closure to another.

[0009] A first exemplary embodiments of the Container Closure with a Vent Capability may consist of a cylindrical general shape, containing an exterior sidewall traveling the circumference of the container closure with at least one non-communicative aperture on the sidewall that allows for the free flow of air, or a substance, from one side of the container closure to another and does not communicate with the contents of an appended container, a face surface connecting at the terminal points of the sidewall, wherein the face surface contains at least one communicative aperture aligning with an appended container for the discretionary disbursement of a housed substance, and a flip-top cap fasted to the container closure that locks and releases for the control of a substance housed within an appended container.

[0010] A second possible exemplary embodiment of the Container Closure with a Vent Capability may consist of cylindrical shape, containing an exterior sidewall traveling the circumference of the container closure, a face surface connecting and adjacent to the terminal points of a sidewall, wherein the face surface contains at least one communicative aperture aligning with an appended container for the discretionary disbursement of a substance, and at least one non-communicative aperture that allows for the flow of air from one part, or section, of the container closure to another and does not communicate with, or hinder, the control of the contents within an appended container, a flip-top cap that fastens and releases and contains at least one non-communicative aperture that does not interfere with the control of a substance housed within an appended container.

[0011] A third exemplary embodiment may consist of a container closure cylindrical in general shape containing a sidewall and an adjacent top wall possessing at least one vent of symmetric or asymmetric shape, that does not directly communicate with a substance contained within an associated container. Whereas the at least one container closure vent traverses both the sidewall and face wall.

[0012] Additional features of the disclosure will be presented in the "Brief Description of Drawings" and "Detailed Description" of the disclosure. Detailed descriptions of accompanying exemplary embodiments communicate the disclosure as presently perceived.

[0013] An object of the Container Closure with a Vent Capability disclosed herein is to provide an improved container closure that reduces the likelihood, or tendency for the accumulation of a substance within, and or around the area, or areas of, a container closure.

[0014] The disbursement and discouragement of accumulation of a liquid or substance in, or around areas of the container closure, or container, may be supported by a container that may stand freely upon the container closure, allowing gravity to aid in the disbursement of the additional substance through the at least one container closure vent. The at least one container closure vent allows for a liquid, in one example water, to flow down a container or container closure, into a cavity near the container closure and appended container, and out through the at least one container closure vent of the container closure, thus preventing the accumulation of a substance in, or around, the container closure and or, container.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Variations of the first exemplary embodiment are represented in FIGS. 1 through FIG. 16, these exemplary embodiments consisting of a container closure body 1, a container closure top 2 that securely rests upon a container closure base 3, whereas the top 2 and base 3 are joined together by a pliable hinge 8. In such related exemplary embodiment, the pliable hinge 8 connects the container closure top 2 and the container closure base 3 at points on the exterior sidewall of the container closure top 23, and the exterior sidewall of the container closure base 7. The exterior sidewall 23 contains a secure fastening point 6 that creates a point of tension to hold the top 2 in a closed position. The exterior sidewall 23 annular in general shape extends perpendicularly away from an exterior top face 5, whereon, holes, apertures and or container closure vents 4 may exist. The vents 4 maintain indirect communication with an appended container that connects through the annular connection cavity 22 of the closure base 3. Within the center region of the fastening component is an annular aperture guide 24 that supports alignment between the opening of an appended container and the aperture 15, supporting the controlled discretionary release of a substance housed within an appended container.
