Abstract

Claims



1. A device on which a human can perform both glute-ham raises and Nordic leg curls.

2. A device on which a human can perform multiple versions of a Nordic leg curl that each begin with the knees existing flexed to a unique degree, the thighs resting against a padded support such that the hamstrings are mostly disengaged, the shins resting against a padded support, the ankles trapped between two padded supports, and the surfaces of the feet or shoes pressing against a solid surface.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] This invention is a device on which a human can exercise via performing glute-ham raises and multiple versions of the Nordic leg curl. A glute-ham raise is an exercise constituted by a person simultaneously performing the three actions of: keeping the spine, hips, and ankles in neutral positions, keeping the fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and all the portions of the body below the knee joints stationary, and sustaining a force through the thighs such that both of the knees are concurrently flexing or extending in a synchronized manner. A Nordic leg curl is an exercise constituted by a person simultaneously performing the three actions of: keeping the spine, hips, and ankles in neutral positions, keeping the fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and all the portions of the body below the knee joints stationary, and sustaining forces through the Achilles tendons and shins against two separate supports such that both of the knees are concurrently flexing or extending in a synchronized manner. The segment of the Nordic leg curl that occurs when the knees are flexing constitutes the concentric portion of the exercise, whereas the segment of the Nordic leg curl that occurs when the knees are extending constitutes the eccentric portion of the exercise. The concentric portion of the standard form of the exercise begins while the torso is parallel to the ground and the knees are completely extended and continues until the torso is perpendicular to the ground and the knees are flexed ninety degrees. The eccentric portion of the standard form of the exercise begins while the torso is in perpendicular to the ground and the knees are flexed ninety degrees and continues until the torso is parallel to the ground and the knees are completely extended. The completion of one repetition of the standard form of the Nordic leg curl consists of the completion of the concentric portion of the exercise followed by the completion of the eccentric portion of the exercise.

[0003] There are multiple problems regarding the current devices designed to accommodate glute-ham raises and Nordic leg curls. To begin with, a device designed to accommodate both the Nordic leg curl and glute-ham raise does not currently exist. Furthermore, the devices designed to accommodate the Nordic leg curl are limited to accommodating only the standard version of the Nordic leg curl. The vast majority of humans are too weak to perform one repetition of the standard version of the Nordic leg curl, and due to the difficulty of the concentric portion of the standard version of the Nordic leg curl continuously decreasing as the degree of knee flexion increases from zero degrees to ninety-degrees, the standard version of the Nordic leg curl more thoroughly trains the muscle fibers responsible for initiating flexion of less-flexed knees than it trains the muscle fibers responsible for initiating flexion of more-flexed knees.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] This invention is an exercise device on which a human can perform glute-ham raises and six different versions of a Nordic leg curl, the six different versions of the Nordic leg curl each beginning with the knees existing flexed to a unique degree, the thighs resting against a padded support such that the hamstrings are mostly disengaged, the shins resting against a padded support, the ankles trapped between two padded supports, and the surfaces of the feet or shoes pressing against a solid surface. Due to this invention allowing a human to perform six different versions of the Nordic leg curl that are each characterized by substantially unique difficulties, the easiest version of the Nordic leg curl that this invention facilitates being easy to perform for most humans who have little experience exercising, and the most difficult version of the Nordic leg curl that this invention facilitates being possible to perform only by humans with extensive experience exercising, this invention allows humans of all different strengths to conveniently use the Nordic leg curl to strengthen their hamstrings. Furthermore, via utilizing this invention to perform multiple versions of the Nordic leg curl, users of this invention can train their hamstrings without overdeveloping the muscle fibers responsible for initiating flexion of less-flexed knees relative to the muscle fibers responsible for initiating flexion of more-flexed knees.
